Killed in Road Race Trial
When his car swerved from the roadway while he was practicing on March 30 for the Grand Prix road race at Cowes, Phillip Island,. Leslie James Cramp, aged 24 years, process engraver, of Vickery street, Bentleigh, was fatally injured and a passenger was hurt. At the city morgue yesterday the coroner (Mr. Hauser, P.M.) held an inquiry into Cramp's death.
Cramp's passenger, Reginald Robert Leslie, mechanic, of Wellington avenue, Beaumaris, said that the car had been travelling at 80 miles an hour during one stage of the trial run. Later it appeared to be "wandering." Witness did not re- member the accident. He recovered consciousness in hospital on the following day. If a spring had been broken he did not detect it through the behaviour of the car.
Arthur Joseph Terdlich, furniture manufacturer, of Barry street, Kew, who was in charge of the practice trials on March 30, said that the track was in per- fect order. Witness instructed Cramp to drive around the course to make himself familiar with it. When the car left the road Cramp was three-quarters of a mile along the straight. No other cars were on that section of the course.
Joseph Norman, motor foreman, of Woodville avenue, Glenhuntly, said that he had formerly owned the car which Cramp had driven on March 30. He did not think that the broken spring could have caused the accident.
First-constable James McGrady said that after swerving from the road the car had passed over on embankment, struck two trees, and stopped 270ft. away. Cramp died two hours later.
The coroner recorded a finding of acci- dental death.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
