"STOPKA" COUNTRY.
Two Russians resident in Sydney Messrs. N. Velmin and G. Doronin-who formerly served in the Russian Navy and the Russian White Army, said last night that neither Changkufeng nor Possiet Bay would be hard for the Japanese to capture, because they pos-sessed no fortifications.
"Possiet Bay is small, and mainly settled by Russians and Koreans," said Mr. Doronin, who served in the Infantry section of the White Army, and has visited the locality many times. "It lies at the intersection of three frontiers-those of Korea, Manchukuo, and Siberia. It is about two hours by boat from Vladivostok. All round it is what we call 'stopka' country-series upon series of small hills, bare of vegetation. From the air, these look like waves, and on the crest of one of them stands Chankufcng, while in the trough behind it there is a Japanese settlement. The Japanese want to take the town because from their settlement they cannot see over it to the coast."

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
