A VIOLENT CHARACTER.
At the Richmond court yesterday a young
man names William A. Cramp was charged
with insulting behaviour and resisting
Constable Little. Caroline Finch, accused's
sister-in-law stated that Cramp had sys-
tematically illtreated and neglected his wife
who had been cared for by her family, and on
the 14th inst. he came to witness's home in
M'Kay-street, armed with a tomahawk and a
loaded stick. His wife, who had just been
brought from the hospital was kept out of
his way and he threatened to kill witness
Constable Little was sent for, and when he
tried to arrest the accused he fought so
savagely that the constable had to obtain a
cart and the assistance of several civilians to
get him to the lock up. Accused appeared
in court with his hand bandaged, and de-
clared that the constable had broken it. On
the first charge accused was fined 20s., or
seven days; and for resisting the counstable
40s., or 14 days cumulative, with £2 2s,
costs.
