STOLE RAILWAY MATERIAL.
John William Bennett, 48, linesman motor driver, was before Newtown Police Court yes-terday on several charges of having stolen gun-metal, the property of the Railway Commis-sioners, from Leichhardt railway and tramway depot.
Mr. Abigail appeared for defendant, who pleaded guilty, and the evidence of Detective Sergeant Sherringham was to the effect that defendant was found delivering metal to a Marrickville foundry, and admitted that he had at various times stolen railway metal and sold it there. He said he did it because he was "up against it," owing to sickness in the family. Defendant was employed as an emer-gency man at the depot, and had had 20years' service.
The total amount involved in the charges was£88/18/, and in reply to Mr. Camphin, S. M., Police Prosecutor Thomas said defendant had received over £90 for the material he had stolen.
Mr. Camphin sentenced defendant to six months' imprisonment, but suspended it on a £60 bond to be of good behaviour for two years.

John William Bennett, for 19 years em-ployed at the Leichhardt depot, said that he told defendant when he took the first lot of metal to him that it was "crook." Defendant said that it would soon be melted down. On the day when witness was arrested the load he was delivering to defendant was copper, which he had taken from the Leichhardt depot, and was the property of the Railway Commissioners.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
