OBITUARY.
MR. ROBERT HUDSON.
It came as a shock to us this morn-
ing that Mr. Robert Hudson had passed
away at, 4 o'clock. An inquiry call yes-
terday elicited that it was contem-
plated to send him to Sydney to under-
go an operation, which, if successful,
might restore him to robust health:
but his family attendants, it appears,
had no hope of his restoration, and
they were not surprised by his peaceful
death this morning. Only a week or so
he resigned his office of secretary, of
the Hospital, so that he died in har-
ness. His services to the Hospital
had met with high appreciation, and it
was with great regret that the com-
mittee had to accept his resignation,
Mr. Hudson was a native of Rathfri-
land, County Down, Ireland, was 72
years of age; and he came to this
country when he was in the prime
of life, and a model of physical de-
velopment. He was married at Dry-
burgh, 40 miles from Burrowa, his wife,
who still survives him, being a
daughter of the respected family of
Balgowan. He joined the force of
troopers who followed the bushrangers
in the most daring days of the gangs,
under Sir Frederick Pottinger, his
fellow troopers being Robert Little and
Patrick White, who were among the
pioneers of Cootamundra. Strange to
say, he had a sensational meeting,
when he was a lad in the Liverpool
Gas Works (England), with one who,
after many years, became a leader of
a bushranging gang in this country'97
Captain Moonlight (Scott), and whose
gang were cut short in their desperate
career in the historical Battle of
Wantabadgery. He had been playing
draughts with young Scott, when, in
a dispute, the latter presented a re-
volver in his face. He snatched the
revolver, but Scott surprised him still
further by drawing a dagger and stabb-
ing him in the cheek with it. The scar-
was to be seen on Mr. Hudson's cheek
bone.
Mr. Hudson came to Cootamundra
from Binalong (where he had been
acting as clerk of the court) in the
early part of 1877, having joined the
railway service . He was an active
townsman, and did Yeoman service in
the early struggles of the Presbyterian
Church, debating societies, the School
of Arts, cricket clubs; and with his
own hands he devoted a great deal
of his time to keeping the cemetery
in order. His special work was done
for the old and the new Hospital as
the ever zealous secretary of the com-
mittee.
Mr. Hudson leaves three sons,
William (married), Thomas (married,
now the well known railway in-
spector) and Robert, in Mr. G. T. Att-
lost a son (David), who was the victim
of an accident, his skull fractured by
the kick of a horse.
His remains are to be followed from
the house to the cemetery to-morrow
(Wednesday) afternoon.
We feel sure that the people will
join us in expressing their great re-
gret at his death, and their warm sym-
pathy to Mrs. Hudson and the family.

• Cremation, 1911 May 31, Cootamundra, Harden County, New South Wales, Australia.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
