An application was made for the transfer of the license of Tattersall's Hotel,- George-street, from Jonathan Davison to William Whitmore. Mr. Thompson appeared for Whitmore. Dis- trict Inspector Musgrove reported that Whit- more had been twice convicted undor the Act when holding a license at Black Horse Hotel. In the box the Inspeotoc said he objected to the application ; Whitmore had been given to periodical drinking fits, and when formerly holding a license he gave the police great trouble by selling goods after hours, and it was impossible to get into the house. \emdash To Mr. Thompson : Whitmore was convicted of supply- ing liquor to Kelly, when a prohibition was out against such supply being given ; I believe there is not an honester man in town than Whit- more ; he kept a good house at the Oxford, but when he took the Black Horse he took to drink ; he had too many bad characters hanging about the house ; I believe he has 16 children, and ono of them, his son, has boon prosecuted; I do not know that that son has been sent away \emdash William Whitmore gave evidence on his own behalf. He said : I have heard it stated that I have been addicted to drink, but I took the Pledge before Dean Marriott on1 27th May; I had been sober for several weeks before that ; I havo a son 27 years of age, who has not been as good as he might be, but he is going away ; the characters referred to still hang about the Black Horse Hotel \emdash they do not fallow me ; I am a contractor, and my wife attends to the business in the day time ; I produce certificates of character from Messrs. Mugridge, Barham, Lanfranche, Machattie, Fitzpatrick, Stephens, Kelaher, who urge the granting of the applica- tion. To Inspector Musgrove : My son; left the house once before, promising never to come back. \emdash Mr. Thompson urged that one gaeat thing in favor of the granting of the application, was the fact that the landlord, with a full know
ledge of the character of applicant, was willing to accept him as a tenant. \emdash The P.M. said he could not bring himself to place a man in temp- tation, knowing his failing, and in saying this he was as much influenced by consideration for the man as for the public. \emdash Mr. Ruther- ford was inclined : to give Whitmore another trial. \emdash The Bench being divided the application was dismissed, Whitmore being informod that he could apply again when the full Licensing Bench met.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
