REACH has an office in Petronas Towers. I had to do a phone conference call. But I found that my work mobile did now work while in Malaysia. Rather than use my own mobile and because the APRICOT conference was in the same complex as Petronas Towers, I headed over to the office. It also gave me a chance to meet the people in our pop. The office is up on the 49th floor and has good views.
Continue reading Visiting Petronas Towers Sai-Ping, Raymond and the others are down from HK to do some work here for the week. So we headed out for a pub lunch. Well we went past what is no longer the Paddington Arms to find that the Grand National was closed, bypassed the London and ended up at the Paddington Inn. The latter choice surprised me as Matthew hates it with a vengeance. I don’t know why. It is conveniently located across the road, but the prices are a little higher.
Continue reading A lunch at work  the players  the priate Sia-Ping and Raymond had been down this week so we went on a Team Building session the in the afternoon. Probably it was 8 years too late, but that’s REACH for you, never one to spend money where money can be avoided being spent. Alas, some of the people are too unfit for anything which might actually involve exercise, so we were stuck doing a treasure hunt around the rocks. I am somewhat over the rocks and generally avoid it these days. There are much more interesting places in Sydney. We showed up at 2PM to meet our pirate leader. This must be quite a good business. He has very little input, and several groups on the run at once. Continue reading Team Building I did my first ever Cisco training, a five day course squeezed into three on Cisco QOS. This was not enough time. Sadly Matthew thinks that all courses are given too much time and thinks you can do the work of 5 days in 3. It needed at least 4 days. But I learned [...] I spent three days in North Sydney at the Juniper Office doing training on Juniper Routers. It has severely impacted my very poor knowledge of Cisco commands as Juniper has a much better and very similar command structure. And I bumped into Stilgherrian, met Kate for the first time and then Pong over [...] Well we went out onto the harbour as is the tradition at Reach. This year’s event was a complete turn around from last year. Good weather, a nice boat, no danger of drowning and good food. I ate mostly with the accounting section, they are good company. I did not remember to take my [...] I have started working with Telstra at 400 George street one day a week. Normally I’ll be there on Fridays.
