{"id":113,"date":"2009-03-23T03:26:36","date_gmt":"2009-03-22T17:26:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/yewenyi.wordpress.com\/?p=113"},"modified":"2009-03-23T03:26:36","modified_gmt":"2009-03-22T17:26:36","slug":"disliking-the-french","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yewenyi.net\/wp\/old\/?p=113","title":{"rendered":"disliking the french"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Previously I blogged on disliking the <a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/18\/disliking-the-japanese\/\">Japanese<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/24\/disliking-the-lebanese\/\">Lebanese<\/a>. Well now it seems to be the turn of the French. It has been going along at least since the second gulf was when the French were sensible enough to stay out of it.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">On the TV news reports of the\u00a0European\u00a0response to the financial crisis only pick out one country, France. The French government is reported as being the only European government to take up a protectionist line, importing a small number of jobs from Slovakia to France.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">Reports of laws being\u00a0written\u00a0to protect the frenchness \u00a0of movies. (this is a bit odd. Australians would do the same thing to preserve Australian\u00a0culture\u00a0against\u00a0American culture if they thought it stood a chance of working.)<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">People in the pub tell me that the French, with their\u00a0aerial\u00a0nuclear tests in mainland France (a bit of a play on the fact that they were in the Pacific, a fact that really annoys Australians) are responsible for the rise in background radiation in those years (this is also true of other countries doing nuclear testing. And the French never did such tests on mainland Australia, unlike the Brits). I was reminded of a story I heard on the radio, where a man in Brisbane was\u00a0calibrating\u00a0radiation detectors. This was his job. He had a problem one day when it rained. There was so much\u00a0radiation\u00a0coming down in the rain (because\u00a0of a test some time earlier in Western Australia) that he could not continue with his calibrations. He had his detectors\u00a0confiscated\u00a0and was not allowed to tell anyone until the time of the official secrets act expired.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify\">In a completely\u00a0separate\u00a0incident (as far as I can tell from the\u00a0previous\u00a0one), I was advised the French cars are no good as the French are a bunch of splitters who will always\u00a0deliberately\u00a0do things in a different way just to be different. (Apparently\u00a0this is bad.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Previously I blogged on disliking the Japanese and\u00a0Lebanese.
