I went down to the second last night of Sculpture by the Sea<\/a> with Not So Nice Duck.<\/a> I travelled by train and bus, taking only my camera, headband torch and flash, I had decided to not use a tripod. We met outside Iceburgs<\/a>. I still have never been inside, but now I have taken a photo of the iconic pool, though I still have not taken the iconic photo looking straight down into the pool.<\/p>\n

We then headed down along the path. As we were taking out first photos, a group of bike riders, mostly on mountain bikes came past us down the stairs.<\/p>\n

I was using the camera hand held, though this was generally not so successful. But still I was able to get some interesting effects.<\/p>\n

It takes a long time to take photos at night like this. I was typically using a 30 second exposure with the camera on the ground. I would then light up my object with my head lamp. Sometimes I needed to use the in built flast on the camera to allow it to get the focus. I would then switch the focus to manual, making sure not to change it. I was very pleased with the results.<\/p>\n

I also did several shots with the flash. This was not so successful and I was having trouble at the start getting any results at all. But one image worked particularly well with the flash.<\/p>\n

I also did a few shots with no flash at all, using the light reflects off the clouds the make the shot.<\/p>\n

And one last show with my fellow photographer wandering around the sculpture using his torch to create a headlight effect.<\/p>\n
