Rather I was just taking holiday snapshots and the odd short movie as a record of where I had been. The movies are good because I could get in a panorama. When I returned, I thougt of making a slide show, for the family, in the tradition of my grandfather who always gave us great slide nights. I quickly relaised that I had enough material to make a documentary. I count those american civil war documentaries as my inspiration. So with the limited material I had available I produced these short snippets. They are in multiple parts primarily becuase this was about the limit that my computer at the time could handle without slowing to a crawl.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/7368\">Part 1 &#8211; Getting There<\/a> (15MB)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">This is about the journey from Westmead to St Lenard&#8217;s on Sea via Osaka.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8164\">Part 2 &#8211; Sussex, England the Normans and Anglo-Saxons<\/a> (40MB)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">Sussex is where several of my ancestors lived. The Norman descended ancestors, who connected into the family in Australia only a <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/311.htm\">few generations back<\/a>. The Anglo-Saxon ancestors are from the <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/234.htm\">Cramp <\/a>side. My <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/715.htm\">Marks <\/a>side members also come from Sussex, but Marks is a Jewish name. We do not know if they were Jews.<br \/>Also featuring in the video is the town of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bexhill-on-Sea\">Bexhill <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arundel_Castle\">Arundel<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bodiam_Castle\">Bodiam <\/a>castles.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8322\">Part 3 &#8211; London to Dublin<\/a> (28M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">Arriving in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Shooters_Hill\">Shooter&#8217;s Hill<\/a> I visit the site, now a War Hospital of the 80 room mansion called Hazelwood House, which belonged to the father <a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.wikicities.com\/wiki\/George_Harley_%281730-1814%29\">George Harley<\/a>, father of <a href=\"http:\/\/genealogy.wikicities.com\/wiki\/Elizabeth_Harley_%281765-1842%29\">Elizabeth Harley<\/a> (1765-1842). They are Great&#8230;Grandparents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">I then meet up with Wendy who has arrived from Europe. We visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.harrods.com\/\">Harrods<\/a>. On the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thames\">Thames<\/a> I visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/hmsbelfast.iwm.org.uk\/\">HMS Belfast<\/a>. We then drive to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.monksbarnfarm.co.uk\/\">Monk&#8217;s Barn<\/a>. Then onto <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holyhead.org\/\">Holyhead<\/a> and over the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Irish_sea\">Irish Sea<\/a> to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dublin\">Dublin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8530\">Part 4 &#8211; Dublin and surrounds<\/a> (26M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">A few days in Dublin. We stay at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.regencyhotels.com\/hotels\/content.asp%7EPageID=39\">Parliament Hotel<\/a>, because we never realized that this was the weekend of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hurling\">Hurling<\/a> grand final. On the first full day I go to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glendalough\">Glendalough<\/a>. On the second day we go to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Knowth\">Knowth<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_Grange\">Newgrange<\/a>. Finally we visit <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dublin_Castle\">Dublin Castle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8551\">Part 5 \u2013 Bridgnorth<\/a> (41M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">We leave the ferry at Holyhead and travel to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bridgnorthguide.info\/\">Bridgnorth<\/a> so that Wendy can research her ancestors. We stay at the Parlors Hall Hotel. I visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ironbridgeguide.info\/\">Iron Bridge<\/a>, the home of the Industrial Revolution. I then spend the day at Bridgnorth, visiting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bridgnorthcliffrailway.co.uk\/\">Funicular<\/a>, St Leonard&#8217;s Church and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.svr.co.uk\/\">Severn River Railway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8564\">Part 5A \u2013 The Normans<\/a> (47M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">The Harley&#8217;s live in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smr.herefordshire.gov.uk\/education\/tudor\/The%20Siege%20of%20Brampton%20Bryan.htm\">Brampton Bryan Castle<\/a> and have their old family castle as a ornament in the front yard. <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/78.htm\">Lord Robert Harley<\/a> is my ancestor here. This is the most disputed connection in the tree. I then travel to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eng-h.gov.uk\/ArchRev\/rev95_6\/hp_mids.htm\">Wigmore Castle<\/a> to see the home of my grand uncle \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/3\/12440.htm\">Earl Robert De Mortimer<\/a>, who tried to seize the English throne. I also visit the towns of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abberley.co.uk\/\">Abberley<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/directory.google.com\/Top\/Regional\/Europe\/United_Kingdom\/England\/Worcestershire\/Ombersley\/\">Ombersley<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Broadwas\">Broadwas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8567\">Part 6 \u2013 The Lakes District<\/a> (10M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">We stop of in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lancaster,_England\">Lancaster<\/a> on the way to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitcumbria.com\/amb\/amble.htm\">Ambleside<\/a> on the high road, through the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lake_District\">lakes district<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8570\">Part 7 \u2013 Scotland<\/a> (50M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">We start in Edinburgh. Duncan I and Malcolm III are great-grandparents. I then head for <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Aberdeenshire\">Aberdeenshire<\/a>, visiting Scone on the way and heading over the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Grampian_Mountains_%28Scotland%29\">Grampians<\/a>. The <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/465.htm\">Balgowan<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com\/%7Eyewenyi\/578.htm\">Shand<\/a> family branches come from around Rhynie, Clatt, Gartley, Lumden and Drumblade.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"western\">I then travel back to Edinburgh via <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dunnottar_Castle\">Dunnottar<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Glamis_castle\">Glamis<\/a> Castles. The next day I do a bus tour. We go to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Linlithgow_Palace\">Linlithgow Palace<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stirling_Castle\">Stirling Castle<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Loch_Lomond\">Loch Lomond<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/yewenyi.blip.tv\/file\/8731\">Part 8 \u2013 Midlands<\/a> (20M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">We leave Scotland had head to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boroughbridgeonline.co.uk\/\">boroughbridge<\/a> near York. We visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fountainsabbey.org.uk\/estate\/estate1a.html\">Fountain&#8217;s Abbey<\/a>, inhabited by Mysterious Monks. We visit Catherine in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.derbyphotos.co.uk\/areas_p_z\/stanton_by_bridge.htm\">Stanton-by-Bridge<\/a>. We have dinner in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Melbourne,_Derbyshire\">Melbourne<\/a>. And return to London.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"heading-4-western\"><span style=\"font-size:100%\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blip.tv\/file\/8735\">Part 9 \u2013 London<\/a> (30M)<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"western\">Hordes of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/1\/hi\/uk\/2272916.stm\">protest marches<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cutty_sark\">Cutty Sark<\/a>, and a day trip to Oxford. With some ancestors from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxford\">Oxford<\/a>, including <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_I_of_England\">John, King of England<\/a>. Back in London I spend half a day at work and then visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wesleyschapel.org.uk\/\">Wesley Chapel<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nhm.ac.uk\/\">British National Museum<\/a>. The final day is spent wandering around London. We stop off to see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/etext\/1526\">Twelfth Night<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shakespeares-globe.org\/\">Globe<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I went on this holiday, I did not intend to make any movies.
