THE GELAM CROWN LEASES
The Hay Land Board (Mesrs. R, Mc-
Lean, chairman, J. Johnston and Jas.
Houston), sat at Hay on Wednesday,
and dealt with the conflicting applica-
tions for two Crown leases on Gelam
holding, of 5483 acres each.
Eleven applications had been lod-
ged, and of these that of W.J. Mitchell
was, withdrawn by the permission of
the Board. Of the remainder the
Board allowed eight to go to ballot
Some of the applicants only applied
for Block C, the one nearest the river.
The ballot resulted in the first
choice falling to Robert Watson Dun-
can, of Hay; and the second to Robert
Stewart, of near Carathool
The other applicants admitted to
ballot, and the order which they se-
cured at the ballot, were: Albert Les-
lie Cramp, Cyril Blomfield, James
Griffiths, Gertrude Blomfield, Harold
Dale, and Henry Ignatius Copeland.
As none of the applicants were in
attendance, no further action was
taken. Mr. Duncan's first preference
is Block C,and neither Messrs Stewart
nor Cramp has applied for the other
block.

Constable Albert Leslie Cramp, of
Oaklands, stated that at midnight of
June 16 he saw the accused in a hut at
Coorabin, near O'Connor's hut. He
asked Bennett if he knew anything
concerning the fire at O'Connor's. The
answer was that Bennett was too
drank to know what had happened.
Mrs. Bennett said "I know how it
happened. I knocked the lamp over
when I was in the hut getting a few
things I had left there." On the fol-
lowing day he searcher the Bennetts'
belongings. He found a pocket-knife
and a table knife, which the accused
claimed to be their own. Outside the
remains of O'Connor's hut he found the
door lock, with the key in it.
In reply to Mr. Finchain, Cramp said
that for two months before the fire
the defendants had been on good terms
with O'Connor. A sulky was near the
burned hut, and the wire fence between
it and the hut was broken down.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
