ASSIZE INTELLIGENCE.
BATHURST CIRCUIT COURT.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 28TH.
BEFORE Mr. Justice THERRY.
Charles Edward Blackman (on bail) was indicted for stealing at Bathurst, on the 25th day of February last, £75, the property of Sampson Taylor.
Mr. Holroyd defended the prisoner.
From the evidence it appeared that the prisoner had been hired by the prosecutor to drive a load of wool into Bathurst, which the prosecutor sold on its arrival, and received payment. The prisoner left Bathurst the same evening, and the prosecutor followed the next morning and overtook him at Kelso. At the time of his leaving Bathurst he had £5 in his waist- coat, and fifteen £5 notes; the prosecutor travelled alone, but was subsequently overtaken by the prisoner at the Green Swamp; they then travelled together, drinking at different places on the read; the prose- -cutor paid for a box of sardines for the prisoner, at Drew's, giving a sovereign in payment, and handed -over the change to the prisoner ; on leaving Drew's, the prisoner recommended the prosecutor to get up, and lie down on the dray, which he did, and fell asleep ; the prosecutor had seen his money safe a short time befare ; on arriving at Ferry's he awoke, and, whilst there, the prisoner drove off with the team ;- he then missed his money, and went after the prisoner, whom he overtook at the police station ; on asking the prisoner if he had his money, he said yes, and handed him £7 ; the prosecutor asked him if that was all, and he said yes ; the prisoner was given in charge, and, on being searched, 7s. 9d. was found on him ; the prisoner said he had taken the £7 from the prose- cutor to take care of it for him; the prosecutor, when he came to the Station, was drunk; the prisoner was sober; Captain Battye searched the dray, but found no money.
Mr, HOLROYD, having addressed the Jury, called a witness who gave the prisoner a good character.
His HONOR summed up, and the jury found the prisoner guilty.
He was remanded.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
