STOLEN PETROL.
Becoming suspicious as to the move- ments of a motor car in the vicinity of his garage, on the night of November 28, Frederick William Dixon, proprietor of a garage in Ann-street, near North Quay, watched the premises, and later walked in unexpectedly. He here saw a young, man, assisted by one of his employees (a boy), syphoning petrol from a private car into a tin. The police were called and as a result John Shinners appeared, in the Police Court yesterday, before Sir. J. J. Leahy, Acting P.M., charged with having received one gallon of petrol, the property of Victor Gordon Benyon. know- ing it to have been stolen. Accused, who was represented by Mr. H. H. Stone (Messrs. Stephens and Tozer), pleaded not guilty. After hearing evidenci a, convic- tion was recorded, accused Being fined 10/, together with 10/ costs, in default sÍx hours' imprisonment. The petrol, which was taken possession of by the police, was ordered to be returned to the owner.

SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT.
Six months' imprisonment on each of two charges, sentences to be con- current, was imposed by Mr. H. L. Archdall, C.P.M., on John Blair (26), labourer. Blair was charged that, on December 16, at Brisbane, by falsely pretending to Victor Gordon Benyon that he was a married man, residing with his wife at Melville-terrace, Manly, and that he was the owner of the furniture in the house wherein he resided, he obtained from Benyon, trading under the firm name of Bris- bane Music Store, one player-piano, 24 music rolls, and a player bench, of a total value of £125, with intent to defraud. He was further charged that, on November l8, at Brisbane, he stole a wireless set, valued at £23/17/6, the property of Melton and Co.

Victor Gordon Benyon, musical ???? dor, of Wickham Street, Valley, said that as agent for the plaintiff he hired the player-piano to Harry Roy Bur-rows on June 12, 1934, under a hire purchase agreement. In September, 1934, Burrows was just about right with his payments. About the end of Sep-tember the defendant came to him and asked him if Burrows had paid cash for the player. Witness told him that Burrows had obtained it under a hire- purchase agreement, and defendant replied, "Well, it seems as if I am in trouble. I just bought a player-piano from Burrows for £25."

By taxi to rob house
A young man took a taxi from Sandgate to Ascot where he robbed a house of goods worth £115, ac-cording to evidence in the Police Court yesterday. William Richard Kerr, 27, labourer, pleaded guilty, and as committed for sentence on a charge of having en- tered the dwelling house of Victor Gordon Benyon, manufacturer's agent, on March 13, with intent to commit a crime.
Detective Terence Murray Lewis said he saw Kerr on March 15, and told him that binoculars, a wallet, a torch, about £40 in cash, a man's wrist watch, and seven five shilling pieces had been stolen from the home of Victor Gordon Benyon, Riv- erview Terrace, Ascot. Kerr had handed him £62 in notes, binoculars, a wal- let, a wrist watch, and seven 5/ pieces.
