(Approaching from the East) On the plank across the river are two women. They have one end of a bunch of seaweed in their hands. The rest is trailing in the current in front of them. As you watch they pull the length of seaweed through a set-of blades they hold with their feet. They lay the ribbons of seaweed across the plank. The men come up occasionally and hand them another bunch which they shred. This scene is repeated hundreds of times across the sand flats.

The peasants do not react as the party approaches. They continue with their work. The men are using small sickles to harvest the seaweed.
The peasants live on the seaweed and fish. There are a few who grow rice in paddies seven miles to the east where there is less salt. They live in a ramshackle collection of driftwood huts which form a small village near the wall of the main city. The village stretches for two miles east of the city. There are about 18,000 living here. They are taxed forty percent of what they harvest. They live very simple lives. There are many children running about the huts while old people sit out the front on rocks and play mah-jongg. The peasants in the village are happy to talk to the party or play mah-jongg with them who win 70% of time.) They are content with their lives believing each has his place in life. The city guard will only come into the village if there is major trouble brewing.
The peasants know the following:
Wing Ting Mai is the Lord of the City.
The city is called Wing Ting Mai.
Wing Ting Mai is a magician.
He was born here and took over the city many years ago.
He is an arrogant bully not to be aggravated, toyed with etc.
No one knows who his father is.
The junks are used for going to the Capital with goods.
The junks are rowed by Wing Ting Mai's slaves.
The slaves are kept in cells under the guard's quarters.
Wu Tze Lee was the Imperial Magician and stole the opals.
One opal is in the city with Wing Ting Mai.

Going west of the city. Going to the sea walls.
Approaching the city gates. Flying to city walls. If they leave.
