DEATH OF W. B. CADELL. CORONER'S INQUEST.
The inquiry into the cause of the death of William Bowman Cadell, whose body was found in the Perth Park on the 15th inst., was resumed at the Coroner's Court yesterday, before the Acting-Coroner (Dr. E. Black).and the jury previously empannelled.
John Ward gave evidence of identification.
John Rex Harris, clerk at the Weld Club, said that he last saw deceased alive between 10.30 and 11 a.m. on the 14th. Previous to that, deceased had been walking about in the room with his hand to his heart. The letter produced was in the handwriting of deceased, and was signed by him. It was received by witness on the 14th inst. Witness had no reason prior to the receipt of the letter to believe that de ceased intended to commit suicide. De ceased seemed to be worried. By the Coroner: Witness knew nothing of de ceased's private financial affairs. The letter produced contained a full adjustment of affairs between deceased and the club.
Alexander Campbell, caretaker at the Karrakatta Cemetery, said that about the 9th inst. deceased went to the cemetery, where he said he would like to get a block for himself in the Anglican portion. Deceased said he might want it soon. His manner did not appear strange, but he seemed absent minded. Deceased spoke to the secretary of the Cemetery Board, and mentioned that his name was Cadell.
Henry Starth, a cabdriver, said that on the 14th inst. he drove deceased, in company with Mr. Robertson, to Newcastle-street State School, where he dropped the latter. Deceased instructed witness to drive to Havelock-street, which witness did. Deceased alighted at the corner of Ord-street. When he got out of the cab he started to walk towards the Park. Witness noticed no thing peculiar in his manner.
Sarah Faulkner said that on the 15th inst. she saw a man lying under a tree on his back. He looked as if he was dead. Witness met a constable, and reported the matter, and led him and some companions to the spot.
P.C. Adams said that the last witness showed witness the body of deceased. The right hand grasped a revolver, with the forefinger on the trigger, the arm lying beside the leg. The left arm was thrown across the body, the left leg being crossed over the right. There was no sign of foul play. Witness accompanied the body to the morgue. By the Coroner: Witness had made inquiries into the affairs of deceased, and as a result found that he was in very serious financial difficulties.
Dr. Thompson deposed to making a post-mortem examination. Death resulted, in witness's opinion, from in juries to the brain and skull, caused by a bullet wound.
The jury returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence adding that the wound was self-inflicted.

DEATH OF MR. W. B. CADELL.
- SUPPOSED SUICIDE
Surprise and regret were expressed yesterday morning when it became known that the dead body of Mr. William Bowman' Cadell, secretary of the Weld Club, had been found in the Perth Park. The deceased gentleman up to Wednes-day fulfilled his duties as secretary of the Weld Club, but on the same afternoon it was reported to Sir James Lee Steere, the president, that he had left his office in the morning, and had not returned. \\No suspicion; was then entertained that any harm would befall Mr. Cadell, but during the afternoon a letter in the de-ceased's handwriting, and addressed to the clerk of the club, arrived through the post, in which Mr. Cadell asked that when he was gone certain dispositions were to be made of his effects. This appeared to indicate that the de- ceased intended to do away with himself, or to leave the colony. Sir James Lee Steere at once communicated with the Commissioner for Police, and it was ascertained that Mr. Cadell had, at about noon on Wednesday, driven away in a cab in the direction of the Observatory. Nothing further became known until ahout 10 o'clock yesterday morning when the body of the deceased was found in the Perth Park, about two hundred yards from the main' road. There was a bullet hole right through the head.
The deceased had been the sec- retary of the Weld Club for about four years, he having come from New South Wales to take the position. In Sydney he was for some time secretary of one of the leading dubs. A week or two ago Mr. Cadell forwarded his resignation as secretary of the Weld Club, to take effect from February 28.
The deceased gentleman was at one time well known in pastoral circles in New South Wales, and was the son of the first navigator of the river Murray, Captain Cadell. He was also a keen sportsman, and was a valued steward of the Canning Park Racing Club, being well known on all the metropoli-tan racecourses. He was a widower, with one son in the colony and other children in New South Wales.
With reference to the time at which he is supposed to have taken his life, there is at present little Information of an authentic character, but there seems to be no doubt that he committed sui-cide, the letter above mentioned af-fording sufficient evidence. In the let-ter he asked the clerk of the club to pay for him sundry debts amounting to about £17, but it is reported that that did not represent the whole of his lia-bilities, and his death is ascribed to de-pression caused largely by financial worry.
The body was removed to the mor-tuary at the Perth Hospital, and an in-quest was opened at 4 o'clock yester-day afternoon. After a formal identifi-cation, the inquiry was adjourned to 4 p.m.-on February 20. The funeral will start from the Roe-street platform at the central railway station for the Kar-rakatta. Cemetery at 10.15 this morn-ing.

A report comes- from Perth that Mr. William Bowman Cadell, secretary of the Neid Club (W.A.), was found dead a few days ago in the Perth Park, under conditions which pointed to the case as being one of suicide, there being a bullet hole through his head. Mr. Cadell, who had been secretary of the Neld Club for about four years, was (says a Perth paper) at one time well known in pastoral circles in New South Wales, and was the son of the first navigator of the River Murray, Captain Cadell. He was also a keen sportsman, and was a valued steward of the Canning Park Racing Club, being well known on all the metropolitan racecourses. He was a widower, with one son in West Australia, and other children in New South Wales.
