Mr Grenenger, for defendant,
pleaded guilty, stating that the
pony had got out of hand a bit
with a boy, and defendant had
then livened the animal up.
Fined 10s and 8s costs, the
P.M. stating that he could quite
understand drivers livening up
ponies at times.

Arthur Cullen'97 stealing bag of chaff,
value 6s, the property of Cornelius Laun-
dess.
William George Cullen'97 stealing bag of
chaff, valued 6s, the property of Cornelius
Laundess.
Cases taken together.
Constable Horne deposed : On 24th
June he went to defendant's camp on
Goolagong road, where he saw the younger
defendant ; saw some chaff (produced)
and Cullen said he bought the chaff from
Bradley's ; Cullen showed them a receipt
for chaff brought from Bradley ; brought
the younger to the station, where he was
identified by Cornelius Laundess and
Charles Nicholls ; heard the younger de-
fendant say they only brought a butt of
chaff in.
Cornelius Laundess deposed ; On 23rd
June had two bags of chaff on his dray in
George street ; missed one of the bags ;
saw the younger Cullen close to his dray ;
identified him on the Sunday at the police
station ; could not identify the chaff pro-
duced, which he valued at 6s.
Charles John Nicholls deposed to see-
ing Laundess' dray in George-street on
23rd June ; saw the younger Cullen put-
ting a bag of chaff on a vehicle ; he could
not say where he got it from.
Edward Andrews deposed to seeing the
younger defendant in George-street with
a horse and buggy ; saw a man strugging
with a bag of chaff close te Launders'
dray ; there were two men, who drove off.
Case for the prosecution.
Defendants elected to be dealt with
summarily, and pleaded guilty.
Sergeant Tracey said the defendants
were strangers, and were rabbiting; he
understood they were poor men, one with
a wife and two children.
The P.M. remarked that probably the
person from whom the chaff was taken
was also a poor man.
The Bench decided to treat defendauts
leniently, and imposed a fine of 20s and
8s costs in each case.

CONSTANTINE LAUNDESS.
The death occurred on Monday of
Mr. Con Laundess, one of Grenfell's
oldest residents, and who had lived
all his life in the Grenfell district.
He was 71 years of age.
The late Mr. Laundess' father came
to Grenfell at the time of the
gold rush, was one time former
owner of the Torwood property at
the foot of the Weddin Mountains.
The late Mr. Con Laundess mar-
ried a daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Jos. Marks.
His wife predeceased him 24 years
ago, since when he lived with his
daughter (Mrs. Joyce).
Surviving members of the family
are: Mesdames W. Joyce, Jas. Joyce,
H. Burks, M. Makin, R. Miles (Gren-
fell), Quinlan (Orange), Thompson
(Cowra), and Mr. Len Laundess
(Cowra).
Two brothers survive '97 Mr. Jack
Laundess (Bankstown), and Mr. Harry
Laundess (Marrickville).
Surviving sisters are Mrs. Worrall
(Marrickville), Mrs. Newton (Lith-
gow), and Mrs. Marjoram (Orange).
There are 13 grandchildren and
three great grand-children living.
All the daughters, and Mrs. Wor-
rall and Mrs. Newton were present
at the funeral.
The funeral left Holy Trinity Church,
Rev. A. S. Rowe conducting the ser-
vice there and at the cemetery.
