bullet  Death Notes:

The Crookwell Gazette, Wednesday, September 27, 1933
Mr. Henry Stephenson
"The passing of Mr Henry Stephenson on Thursday, 14th inst., removes from his kin one of Crookwell's earliest inhabitants, for the deceased's father (The late Benjamin Stephenson) settled on the outskirts of the town about 69 years ago. At that time there was scarcely even a township where Crookwell is now situated.

Born on the Lachlan, deceased came to these parts with his parents at the age of 4 years.

The younger generation perhaps knows little of the late Henry Stephenson for he was a man who mixed very little in public affairs. The old hands, however, speak o fhim as an affectionate husband and father, a staunch neighbour - a man of the land, who could handle a horse with the best, a true son of the soil.

His demise followed an illness extending over a period of five years. he was 73 years of age.

The olds tone house, as it is familiarly known, situated on the Binda Road, is the old homestead built in those far-off days by the late Benjamin Stephenson. The property he named "Alston Park". It was here that he toiled and reared his family, the deceased being one of the younger sons. Like that other Crookwell pioneer, Benjamin Warn, the late Benjamin Stephenson established n the property a family cemetery and it was his wish that his family would all be interred there. Twenty seven years ago, however, a son of the deceased, Fred., pre-deceased him and in accordance with the father's wish he was laid to rest beside the son.

Deceased married a Miss Christie of "Willow Dale" Wheeo, and took up a selection off the Binda Road. Later, for many years he successfully managed the "Willow Tree" Estate. Later still, he took up residence at Brooklands and about seven years ago leased "Almond Grove", Glen Erin, which, together with his eldest son, Harold, he had successfully farmed.

The late Mr. Stephenson was a man of quite disposition, respected by all who knew him.

Besides his widow, three sons and four daughters survive him. One son, Fred., as already stated, predeceased him by 27 years. The surviving sons are Harold (Glen Erin), Charles and Cecil (Crookwell), Mrs. G. Hills (Wheeo), Mrs. Bassingthwaite (Crookwell), Mrs. A.S. Marmont (Golspie) and Miss Freda Stephenson (Glen Erin)
Two brothers, William and James (Crookwell) and one sister (Mrs. G. Charnock) also survive.

The funeral took place on Saturday, Sept 16th, and despite the hour (mid-day) was largely attended. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev H. Polkinghorne. Many beautiful floral tributes were in evidence. Amongst them the following were noted: - wife, Harold and Fred.; Wilga; Fred and Ada; Cec, Flo and grandchildren; Minnie, Norman and grandchildren, Charlie Beatrice and grandchildren; George and Alice; Ern, and Ada; Mr and Mrs George Plumb and family; Mrs. and Mrs. A. Jones and family; J. and M. Robbie and family; Mr and Mrs P. Parker and family; members of the Brooklands Tennis Club.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
