APPREHENSION OF AN ABSCONDER FROM BAIL.-Some time ago a female named Mary Anne Pearce, alias Robinson, was with a lad named James Cramp, committed by the Goulburn bench on a charge of horse-stealing. Bail was applied for, granted, and put in for toe appearance of the accused at the last Quarter Sessions. Cramp appeared on his recognisances, but as Mary Anne Pearce, who the Crown considered was the only guilty party in the felony, failed to surrender, the lad was discharged. Up to last Monday the female managed to elude a very vigilant search for her ; on that day, however, from information received by the police she was apprehended about eight miles on the other side of Tuena Creek. It appears that the Binda constabulary having got wind of the whereabouts of the " wanted" party, Dis-strict Constable Pagett, in company with Sergeant Williams and trooper Watts, of the Gold Police, started in pursuit. Having, on Sunday week, procured fresh horses at Mr. Giblett's, of Cook's Vale, they got upon the track of a cart which had been sent to Tuena by Mrs. Robinson for supplies. They followed this for some distance in the direction of Mr. Isaac Fenton's farm, and, early on Monday morning, some delay having occurred owing to the loss of their horses, they came up to where the cart was at camp. They found there a load of all sorts of provisions in the charge of a man, an old woman, and two or three boys. Leaving Constable Pagett and Trooper Watts in charge, Sergeant Williams proceeded a little dtstance further on, when he fell in with a bough gunyah. Under shelter of this were Mrs. Robinson and a man whom he believes to have been Gabriel Izzard, who effected his escape some time since from the Picton Lock-up, while under escort to Sydney to undergo a sentence for cattle stealing; However, the man, whoever he was, made a precipitate retreat as soon as he saw the sergeant, land, jumping on a horse, bare backed, galloped away. Mrs. Ro-binson was then secured and forwarded, under charge of District Constable Pagett, to Goulburn.

Brian Yap's Note: James Cramp, the younger brother of George Cook Cramp died in his first year of life. So was the James Cramp in this story actually George Cook Cramp, or perhaps one of the other brothers?

THE LOST FOUND.-Mary Anne Pearce, alias Robinson, was committed to take her trial at the last Court of Quarter Sessions, on a charge of horse-stealing. She was admitted to bail, and forfeited her recognizances. Her sureties had each to pay £40 into the Treasury on account of her default. Rumours occasionally reached the police authorities of Goulburn, that she was travel-ling with that notorious scoundrel, Gabriel Izzard, and many fruitless expeditions, were made in search of the parties. At length reliable information was obtained, and District Constable Pagett accompanied by Sergeant Williams and Trooper Watts, of the Gold Police, suc-seeded in apprehending the woman at night in a rough gunyah, near a tilted cart, camped in a secluded spot in the neighbourhood of Tuena. There is no truth in the statement made by a contemporary that Izzard was with Mrs. Robinson at the time, and that when the alarm was given he jumped on a bare-backod steed, and escaped. Mrs. Robinson is now under lock and key in Goulburn Goal. A reward was offered by one of the sureties for the woman's apprehension, and the money be has paid will, it is hoped, be refunded.
