FIVE SHOPS DESTROYED.
BLAZE UNCHECKED.
CROOKWELL, Thursday.
At about half-past 1 a.m., a fire broke out in a shop occupied by Mr. Innes Christie, saddler. The alarm was given by Mr. Lance Denning, who occupied an ad-joining shop as a cabinet-maker, where he also resides with his mother.
The fire had a good hold when first discover-ed, and as the town is unprotected from fire, having no fire brigade, nothing could be done to save the block of buildings. Fortunately, there was a break between the burning build-ings and the Methodist Parsonage, other- wise the whole buildings from Robert-street to Spring-street, on the northern side, must have been burnt out.
The buildings destroyed were premises occu-pied by Furner Bros, (as a grocery store); In-nes Christie (saddler), L. Denning (cabinet- maker), A. Kershaw (draper and fancy goods), and O. H. Turner and Co. (auctioneers).
The whole of the buildings and contents were demolished. The buildings were Insured with the Australian Mutual Fire for* £1200; Phoe- nix Assurance, £350 and £156.
It is believed that all the stocks were In-sured, except Mr. Denning's. Furner Bros.' stock was insured for about £5000.
The cause of the fire is not known. The damage is estimated at between £8000 and £10,000.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
