You spent most of the time learning about the court and its rules or away with the monks, who lived close by, learning weapon skills. As you grew older you were sent on missions to other towns in your father's fiefdom learning what a prince of the kingdom must. Things were bad in the province and it was difficult for your family to pay the huge taxes demanded each year by the Ming Emperor. You spent a significant part of your teenage years on patrol on the edges of the fiefdom with your companion Shu Chong, fighting bandits and dispensing law as required. It was on these trips you met up with Yuen Wu Ye. The three of you always went together and a strong kinship developed. Later Ye left your group. After this a new companion joined, Fang Then Shang. Again there were three of you travelling together One time, when you had all left your lands to deliver a message for your father to another fiefdom you met Hao Shou Shi. He had foolishly tried to extort some money out of you when you crossed a bridge. Seeing that he was only a child you let him off with a stem word and a promise not to do it again. You had not expected to see him again. Recently, times have been tumultuous in the Imperial Court. The Hei family have severely eroded the power of the Ming Emperors. Your family has been jostling for position. Armies are being raised everywhere. Since the news of the deposing of the ex-imperial wizard, Yun Tin Kang, several wars have broken out. It was in this situation that it was decided it would be best for you to go to the Capital City where you would be well placed to take advantage of any event that may occur. Your brother Luo stayed behind with the army to defend the city of Liang. You gathered all your old travelling companions and two others, chosen by your fathers agents, and set off for Nu Gong Zao. On the way you have found that most people of high rank are heading for the Capital often with well equipped armies. Fighting along the roads was commonplace and you have struggled to get there unharmed. Your father gave you a contact, an old man who he said would help as he knew the city and its ways very well. This man had helped your family in the past. When you reached the city you heard the news that Yun Tin Kang's replacement, Wu Tze Lee, had stolen the Three Heavenly Opals (Most Important of Imperial Objects and The Sign of Imperial Rule). Personality You are used to giving orders and having them followed. You have learned to be a good ruler, listening attentively to your advisers, considering all options, but being able to make quick decisive decisions when they are required. You love a good fight against a worthy, competent opponent and will be merciful if they show that they are truly worthy. You accept that people make mistakes and must be given time to learn, especially children. You seek on this trip to gain allies and a stronger position in the scheme of things. It is important that you recognise the openings when they are there and grab what you can, when you can. The future of your family and fiefdom rests on your shoulders. When you are not in the public eye a more playful personality emerges as you relax and start enjoying yourself. You would like to enjoy their freedom to do as you like. This is why you tend to be lenient on others. But you have your place in life and are more than happy with it. Relationships Fang Zhen Shang: You find her a mysterious curiosity. You always over estimate what she knows and can do, due to her mature physical appearance. Hao Shou Shi : A playful spirit who needs freedom to achieve his potential. You like him and feel the need to protect his freedom from the overzealous Shu Chong. Yuen Wu Ye : Good friends in the past, Ye has grown quieter and more withdrawn in the years that you have been separated. You seek to discover what has changed in him. Xue Shu Chong : You have always been a strong believer in Taoism and consider Chong to be a trusted friend. He does get carried away with the forcefulness with which he treats others and you feel that you must always provide a foil to his barbs, least some innocent get hurt. Wen Cha Lin : You have grown fond of Lin in the short time you have known her. She is always at the centre of the group adding a pleasant, friendly touch to everything that happens. You have become conspirators in many ways to change the stodgy attitudes of some of the others and often ally when the need arises. |
