Overturns After Smash
An elderly woman was killed and five other people were injured when two cars collided at the corner of Abercrombie and Codrington Streets, Redfern, last night.
The woman killed was Mrs. Hilda Veness, 66, of Lingard Street, Randwick.
She suffered severe head injuries and ambulance officers said they believed she bled to death on the roadway.
The car in which she was travelling overturned.
Her son, John Veness, 32, secretary of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, also of Lin- gard Street, drove the car.
He suffered head injuries and cuts to the left wrist.
His father. Solomon Veness, and Leo Thomas McMahon, 38, of Bellevue Park Road. Bellevue Hill, were the other passengers in the car.
Both suffered from cuts to the face and body.
The driver of the other car, Roy Sruhan, 39, of Fitzroy Street, Marrickville, and his wife, Cathleen, 34, escaped with slight cuts and shock.
Two Central District Ambu- lance waggons took the injured to Royal Prince Alfred Hospi-tal.
CAR BADLY DAMAGED
The road where the accident occurred was littered with broken glass.
The car which overturned was badly damaged.
Constable Blunt and other Redfern Police are investigat- ing the cause of the accident.
