Retrieved July 4, 2012, from <http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article44892146> GRASSHOPPER CAUSE OP CAR SMASH A grasshopper which flew through the window of a car on the Pacific Highway, at Yatala, yesterday morn- ng caused an accident in which two men and a woman were injured. The efforts of a passenger to catch the grasshopper diverted the driver's attention from the road. After swerv- ing off the right side of the road into the mud the car hit a load of gravel and overturned The injured were:\emdash James Frederick Allen, 19, single, of Dorinda Street, Greenslopes, internal injuries, injuries to the ribs, cuts, and severe shock. Selina Lucelle Allen, his mother, same address, injury to left shoulder, severe shock. Noel John Thompson, 21, single, of Douglas Street, Greenslopes, internal injuries, injury to back, cuts, and severe shock. The party had travelled half-way to Southport for a day's surfing, when the accident occurred. The car \emdash a sports model \emdash came to rest upside-down, with the side across Allen's back. Mrs. Allen's hair was caught inside the cabin, but Thompson was thrown clear. The car had to be hoisted before Allen could be extricated. The two men were taken by Brisbane ambulance to the General Hospital. Mrs. Allen was taken home, but later entered a private hos- pital.

Allen was married to Miss Selina Lucelle Hof. The Rev. A. C. Plane, assisted by the Rev. F. Hof (brother of the bride), officiated. The church was charmingly decorated by friends of the bride, and a wedding bell was suspended over the wedding party. The bride, who was given away by her brother, wore a handsome gown of ivory satin and ninon, finished with lace frills and bead trimming. The long court train, which fell from the shoulders, was adorned with true lovers' knots. The veil (kindly lent by Mrs. Sealy) was worn over a, wreath of orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of white carnations and maiden-hair fern. Miss Rica Hof (sister of the bride) acted as chief bridesmaid, and wore a pretty frock of pink glace silk, the bodice swathed with ninon, and the skirt arranged with panniers. She also wore a picture hat of pink silk, and carried a bouquet of pink and white carnations. Misses Daisy and Isa Allen (bridesmaids) wore dainty frocks of white silk, and pink picture hats. They carried bouquets of pink and white carnations, and wore jewelled brooches (Gifts from the bridegroom). Mr. Tom Beach acted as best man and Mr. George Watt as groomsman. The choir tendered several anthems, and the 'Wedding March" was played by Miss Elsie Gordon. Two little girls strewed the path of the bride with roses. Mrs. Hof (mother of the bride) wore a gown of black silk, and a black toque. Mrs. Allen (mother of the bridegroom) wore a while lace dress over black, and a black hat with a white plume. Miss. Lydia Hof (sister of the bride) wore a frock of while silk, and a pink hat trimmed with white satin ribbons. After the ceremony about 50 guests were en-tertained at the Imperial Cafe. The tables were decorated in pink and white and the bride's table was adorned with a three -tier wedding cake. Subsequetly Mr. and Mrs. Allen left for Tweed Heads. Mrs. Allen wore a coat and skirt of navy taffeta, with a hat ???-monise. The presents were numerous and handsome, and included several cheques.
