GRASSHOPPER CAUSE OP CAR SMASH
A grasshopper which flew through the window of a car on the Pacific Highway, at Yatala, yesterday morn- ng caused an accident in which two men and a woman were injured.
The efforts of a passenger to catch the grasshopper diverted the driver's attention from the road. After swerv- ing off the right side of the road into the mud the car hit a load of gravel and overturned
The injured were:\emdash
James Frederick Allen, 19, single, of Dorinda Street, Greenslopes, internal injuries, injuries to the ribs, cuts, and severe shock.
Selina Lucelle Allen, his mother, same address, injury to left shoulder, severe shock.
Noel John Thompson, 21, single, of Douglas Street, Greenslopes, internal injuries, injury to back, cuts, and severe shock.
The party had travelled half-way to Southport for a day's surfing, when the accident occurred. The car \emdash a sports model \emdash came to rest upside-down, with the side across Allen's back. Mrs. Allen's hair was caught inside the cabin, but Thompson was thrown clear. The car had to be hoisted before Allen could be extricated. The two men were taken by Brisbane ambulance to the General Hospital. Mrs. Allen was taken home, but later entered a private hos- pital.
