Oscar Stahl, alias Oscar Conway Stahl, alias Maurice Juan Jose Lawrence, described as a school teacher, was charged with bigamy. Senior-sergeant Morris deposed that on the arrival of the mail train at Bathurst on Saturday night he received prisoner from Sergeant Parker, of Warren ; took him into the waiting-room and asked his name ; wit- ness told him he charged him by virtue of a warrant he held with bigamy by marrying one Harriet Rosina Davidson, at Raglan, on or about 18th November, 1891, his wife, Amy Rose Teresa Stahl being then alive in New Zealand ; witness gave him the usual caution and in reply be said he did not wish to say anything ; witness took him to the look-up and read the warrant to him ; he made no reply ; witness was unable to proceed further with the case and prayed for a remand until next day when the witnesses would be in attendance. Remanded accordingly.

Webb, W. C. Kelk and P. V. Ryan, Js.P.) ALLEGED BIGAMY Oacar Stahl alias Oscar Louis Conway Stahl alias Mauritus Juan Jose Lorenzo, on remand, was charged with bigamy. Senior-sergeant Morris was recalled, and deposed that his evidence given yesterday was true. Christopher Francis Richmond, barrister and solicitor of New Zealand, deposed : I knew accused and met him at Wellington, Naw Zealand, in 1889, from an introduction by his then solicitor, Mr. Richmond ; he was introduced to me as Oscar Stahl; soon afterwards I made efforts to secure employ- ment for him as he was in distressed circum- stances ; early in the year he left the colony for New South Wales ; I personally know his wife, who is now in court ; she is my client ; I produce a copy of the register of marriage under the seal of the registrar of the colony of New Zealand between Oscar Ludwich Conrad Stahl and Amy Bramley, who, to the best of my belief, is my client ; the mar- riage took place on 31st December, 1888, at St. Mary's Church, Naw Plymouth ; the first I heard of the alleged bigamy of pri- soner and Miss Davidson was in June last ; heard rumors before this. Amy Rose Clarissa Stahl, wife of accused, deposed : My maiden name was Bramley ; I was married in my single name Amy Bramley; I recognise prisoner as my husband ; he was married to me under the name of Oscar Ludwich Conrad Stabl ; we were married at New Plymouth, New Zealand, at the Anglican Church on 31st December, 1888 ; both wit- nesses to the marriage and the clergyman who solemnised it \emdash Archbishop Govert \emdash reside in New Zealand ; early in 1889 my husband left New Plymouth for Wellington, and I never saw him again until after his arrest; I heard from him in 1891 ; in June this year I heard he had committed bigamy, and under advice from my solicitor I came to New South Wales ; have made efforts to trace prisoner but did not succeed. W. G. Burton Smith, C.P.S. and Registrar of Marriages, &c., produced marriage certifi- cate of Mauritus Juan Jose Lorenzo to Harriett Roaina Davidson, which took place on 11th November, 1891. Ernest Churches, Public School teacher of Ben Bullen, deposed that he knew prisoner by the name of Lorenzo ; on 11th November, 1891, witness was present at a marriage which was celebrated between prisoner and Haeriett Rosina Davidson by Archdeacon Campbell ; witnessed the certificate of marriage ; the marriage took place in St. James, Church, Raglan ; witness knew prisoner about a month before the marriage ; Miss Davidson is a sister of an adopted sister of witness. Elizs Toovey disposed to witnessing the marriage at Raglan and signing the certificate. In reply to the charge prisoner said he had nothing to say. He was then committed to take his trial at the next court of Quarter Sessions, to be holden in Bathurst on July 27th.

At the Quarter Sessions yesterday Judge Docker passed tho following sentences : -Oscar Lud- wig Conrad Stahl, who pleaded guilty to bigamy, two years' hard labour. It transpired that the pri-soner represented himself as an army doctor in New Plymouth, N.Z. , and gave it out that he was heir to a large fortune, on faith of which he obtained considerable sums of money and married, and in a few months deserted his wife. This was in 1889. When he came to this colony again in 1891 he mar- ried and proceeded to Warren. He was engaged in teaching in a private school when arrested.
