INSULTED A PORTER.
A plea of "Not guilty" was entered by
Arthur Cramp of Orange, represented by
Mr. N. Cragg to a charge of having used
offensive language to a railway employee,
at Newcastle, on March 13. Inspector
Watson prosecuted on behalf of the Rail-
way Commissioners.
According to the evidence given by
James M. Curtis of St. James-road,
New Lambton, a barrier porter at New-
castle railway station, defendant passed
through No. 1 entrance, and when asked
to produce his ticket showed a dilapi-
dated railway pass. After he was re-
quested to move from the entrance to
the barrier, defendant used the language
complained of in the presence of a num-
ber of passengers. Defendant appeared
to be under the influence of liquor.
Cross-examined by Mr. Cragg, witness
denied having used bad language before
he saw Mr. Lewis, a railway detective,
approaching. He knew that Lewis and de-
fendant travelled together in the train
to Hamilton.
Charles H. Scott. licensed luggage por-
ter, said he heard defendant use the
language. but did not hear all the con-
versation between Curtis and defendant.
In his evidence, defendant denied hav-
ing had any intoxicating liquor that day.
When he asked Curtis what time the
Kempsey mail left, Curtis replied: "You
railway fellows are worse than anybody
else to look after." Defendant added that
he travelled to Hamilton with Mr. Lewis.
but no mention was made concerning the
allegation that he had used the language
complained of.
Cramp was convicted, and was fined
30/. with 8/ costs. 10/ witness' ex-
penses, in default 14 days imprisonment.

BROKE
BONES
IN LEG
Arthur Cramp, 49, of Laggan,
broke his left leg in a peculiar
accident in a paddock at that
centre while engaged in timber
dragging operations.
Cramp, who is employed ,by Mr. J.
Williams, was using a horse, with
chains attached to drag timber to one
corner of a paddock for burning off
purposes and the horse was pulling
a heavy log, which apparently rolled
on an uneven surface, striking Cramp
a severe blow, which shattered both
bones on the left leg.
His brother, who witnessed the ac-
cident, secured car from the home-
stead and rushed Cramp to Goulburn,
where he was ordered to St John of
God Hospital. Owing to the nature of
the injuries, which caused him con-
siderable agony, Cramp had to remain
in the rear seat of the car until the
ambulance arrived with a stretcher.
It is expected that he will be con-
fined to bed for some considerable
time.

There are other people in this site, for various reasons, some not related at all. Some are married into my family, some I once thought were related and, turns out, they are not.

On the Aborigines: Unfortunately, I can only place global statements not he web pages. The aborigines I am aware of are in the Blackman Line and are from the children of James Blackman and Elizabeth Harley.
