DHBC Rave Rollers

DHBC Rave Rollers
Rolling

I have been meaning to go down to the Tempe Velodrome for a month now. The DHBC have training sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays. I wanted to take the camera gear and try out some cycling photography. But every day I have set aside to do so I have been unable to make it. Sometimes becuase it rained, sometimes because I was just too tired and sometimes becuase last minute things came up. So this was my first time to get down there. Michael did a great just at running the Rave Rollers. It was the first one they have done. Ian provided all the ancillaries like the sound system and video. I did not really know what it was going to be until I got there. It was a training session on the rollers. Some had fixed rollers that connect to your back axle, but others had the bicycle equivalent of a tread mill. They looked scary to me. But they say they help with your balance. I can believe that. I am certain that it is a good way to train. Afterwards we retreated to the Concordia Club, run by the German Club. Now there is a story about the German Club that I do not know. But there are many knowing nods and winks.

  1. I’ve always wanted to try out on a velodrome. The idea of having a track bike really appeals to me.
Do the DHBC lot just let anyone join etc? Or can you just turn up at the place, pay and have a ride?
