Kirsten’s sister, Martine, recommended a place to eat down in Scoresby. It took us a while, but eventually we got a time together, without the girls, to go down for a meal. After a bit of wandering around in the wrong place as we had the wrong street number, we found it tucked away at the back of the shopping Center. It we very full of Malaysian Chinese, a good omen. Though they did raucously sing happy birthday at one stage.
We had Loh Bak for entree. It was good but not quite there, three stars.
Next was the first main course. We had Kung Po Chicken. It was a complicated dish. I prefer it simpler, but on the whole it was a nicely balanced dish and probably much healthier. There was too much sauce, and it was too strong, blotting out he flavour of the chicken. Also very mildly hot with some Szechuan chillies. 4 stars.
Finally we had one of my test pieces, Beef Rendang. This was excellent, simple goodness. The meat was soft and flakey. Maybe a bit too much liquid and not enough coconut flavour. 4.5 stars.
