I was reading a post over at ZDnet on the Government’s Internet Filter proposal. And thought that some people are still trying to impose their views on everyone else. But perhaps this is not a very good approach from a free market point of view. So while I am against the proposal in general, here is an alternative based on the free market.
If people like the Government, church groups and others think that it is important to provide a limited access to the internet, then they should do so, not by filtering the internet, but by providing a new ISP who does just that. It would be the selling point. All of the people who so desperately want this, such as church ministers or executives of media companies, will flock to the service as it provides just what they want. In the mantra of the free market, this is called letting the market decide.
