Well, I had ordered some parts on Monday from Greenspeed, Arkel RT-40 panniers for touring, a head rest and Sigma BC-800 computer with mounting kit. Then I missed shopping on Wednesday because of the rain, so I headed down to Woolys Wheels today and picked up a new helmet, a bell and a pressure guage. Of course just after I got back the greenspeed order arrived.
While I purchased the panniers for touring, I expect I will end up using them to ride to work. They are much larger than my current panniers and plenty big enough for the computer, bike bits bag and some clothes in a single pannier. With the ortliebs there only just enough room for all of this in two panniers.
I ended up getting a Specialized tactic black, mountain bike helmet. It has a large visor, and is one of the newer designs that are not supposed to disintegrate on hitting the road. Hopefully I will not need to try this out. It has other things like channels for improved air flow.
I need to do some more adjusting on the head rest. But I have fitted it, a little wonky at the moment I have to say. But I’ll report later on how useful it is. I think it will be useful when I am stopped. Then all I will need is arm-rests. The head rest raises the level of the flag. So now when I ride around the underground car park the flag hits some of the concrete beams on the roof.
I have not finished fitting the bicycle computer . I have asked Greenspeed some questions before I commit to installing it. But it should not be too hard. It is just that it uses sticky pads and I did not want to stick them down until I was sure I was doing the correct thing. The bell is also on the trike. I have put it below the right hand side brake and set it up for use with my pinkie finger. So I will see if this is a good arrangement. My theory is that I can ring the bell without taking my hand off the steering hand-grip.
With the pressure gauge, I found I only had the tyres inflated to 35 psi. I have increased this to 45, but this is still well short of the 80 psi recommended by greenspeed and the 100pis the tyres are rated to. However, at 35 psi, I have not had any flats. *fingers crossed*
Greenspeed have reached their bandwidth limit at the end of the month… :-/
