population density

People tell me that Sydney cannot cope with a higher density of people. I have always found this odd. Perhaps Sydney suffered from terrible town planing. Here are some (unchecked) numbers I just read.

  • 164 people per square kilometre – Perth
  • 690 people per square kilometre – Sydney
  • 4,700 people per square kilometre – London
  • 9,700 people per square kilometre – New York
