Well, I guess it is the third one, or is it the second, no I’m sure it is the third. We went back to the magnificent Balls Head. The rain held off until after we had eaten, so we hastily retreated to Crows Nest. I had planned to ride, but with the pending inclement weather, I decided to catch the train. When you get to Waverton, there is a friendly sign pointing the way to Balls Head.
And when you get there, there is a great view.
Billy has already written a blog post that describes the food in detail. My favourite was Kate’s pea salad with feta and mint (really I am just a fanatical fan of mint and Billy’s Roast Pork. Alas my only photo of the peas was blurry so you’ll have to look in the top right corner of this image of the ham to see it.
Kate, as always, excelled with the non-cylindrical bon-bons and the somewhat chewed upon ginger bread house.
Everyone pitched in with the food and here are some more of the images. Unfortunately not all my food photos worked, so some dishes are missing. I also was partial to the dish brought to us all the way from America, Pretzels covered in white chocolate. I like pretzels and these were even better, though I am not normally such a fan of white chocolate.
After the food, the rain, which had been getting closer started to arrive. We had been watching it rain on the south shore for some time. So we packed up in not time flat and headed back to crows nest to play amy’s family’s game. So here is the current (and I believe correct) iteration of the rules. You sit around a table. 1) with one or more die, you take turns in rolling the die. You roll a d6 and then hand it to your left. If you roll a 6 you get to take a present from the pile in the middle. This goes on until all the presents are taken. 2) for 20 minutes you continue with the die rolling procedure. But this time if you roll a you get to take the present of someone else. At the end of 20 minutes you have a collection of presents. There was a special rule that prevented anyone from having no presents. In the end, wing got he cooking chopsticks…
