Cattle Theft

The Sydney Morning Herald , Page 10, Wed 16 Feb 1887.

YASS, TUESDAY.

At the Quarter Sessions yesterday, before Judge M’Farland, Richard Marks pleaded guilty to stealing 11 cattle from Mr. Hay, of Binda, and 16 cattle from Mr. Paget, of Binda. He was sentenced to four years’ penal servitude and to pay Messrs. Hay and Paget £50 each expenses. Mr. Hay said he would take no more of the fine than his expenses.

Really I do not know how this came to be. Richard owned Markdale in 1872 (as far as I have recorded in my records). So how this come to pass? I have yet to work it out.

He was released after serving three years of the sentence.
