The next day I headed out to the temple complexes and religious sites around the town where I was staying. At first I headed down a long steep stair in a field of stones down the narrow mountain valley to the valley floor.
I then headed cross country to each of the sites. The road system was like a three fingered hand. I was walking along short foot trail from the tip of one finger to the next. Being the odd man out people noticed me. By the second and then definitely at the third people were wondering. Clearly I was walking. They were driving. Because of the roads they had to drive more than three km from one place to the next. I had to walk less than 500 meters. They could not understand how I got there before them.
On the way out I walked along the road. A few cars offered me a lift. But I declined. I was enjoying the walking.
